A Notarial Services Attorney (Thailand's equivalent of a Notary Public) certifies signatures, true copies, affidavits and powers of attorney, which is normally enough for private counterparties, banks and many universities. Documents going to a foreign government authority, embassy or civil registry generally require translation certified by the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, followed by an apostille or destination-embassy legalization.
Do I need a NAATI translator for Australian visa documents?
For submissions to the Department of Home Affairs or ImmiAccount, translations should carry a current NAATI certification stamp showing the translator number and expiry date, because that is what case officers verify. Thai MFA legalization is usually not required for Australian lodgements unless the receiving body specifically asks for it.
Can the whole process be handled remotely from overseas?
Yes for most workflows. You can send high-resolution scans, review the draft translation online, and receive certified hard copies by international courier. Only steps that legally require signing in the presence of the certifying attorney need an in-person appointment at a branch or an agreed meeting point.
