NAATI name change translation | Trace prior and current names
A translated name-change record can explain different names across documents. It does not update a passport, amend a civil register or independently establish identity.

Identify the record by its actual heading
Provide complete, readable pages showing the issuing authority, record title, date and annotations. Do not select a Thai record type solely from a remembered form code or treat given-name and surname changes as identical.
Send the recipient’s current request. If it asks for a fresh extract or separate certification, clarify that before commissioning translation.
Trace successive changes rather than merging them
For multiple changes, identify the records linking the name on an older document to the current name. Preserve the chronology instead of presenting several events as one change.
List degrees, transcripts or other records that still show a prior name. Distinguish documents needing translation from evidence supplied only to check spellings.
Reconcile spellings without rewriting history
Supply relevant passport spellings and earlier English-language evidence. A previous name without an official English spelling needs careful transliteration, not an invented claim that a spelling was officially registered.
Flag conflicting dates, names or references for checking with the issuer. Translation should not hide a mismatch or substitute for an amendment to the source record.
Check the assigned practitioner against the request
Where NAATI certification is requested, verify the actual practitioner’s CPN, certification and language direction. Passing CCL is not professional translator certification.
Home Affairs distinguishes information about translators inside and outside Australia. Read the applicable guidance with the application checklist rather than assuming one rule for all name changes.
Scope each record in the quotation
Specify the number of changes, language direction, accompanying records and delivery format. Copy certification and legalisation are separate tasks only when required and agreed.
Contact our team for a quotation and agree corrections if the source changes. No fixed completion time or guarantee of identity verification is offered.
Questions before commissioning
Is the latest name-change record enough?
Check the recipient’s request and the chain of names involved. The latest record may not link the name on an older certificate to your present name.
Can a degree translation use my current name instead?
Preserve the name recorded on the degree. Supply separate name-change evidence if required rather than rewriting the award record.
Does translation update my passport?
No. Passport and register changes are separate processes with their issuing authorities.
