NAATI degree translation | Award title, dates and supporting records
A degree translation records the award conferred by the issuing institution. It must not add a major, honours or professional entitlement absent from the source.

Distinguish the award from a completion letter
Provide the full document and its heading. A completion letter, degree certificate and transcript may convey different information; identify which record the recipient requests.
Explain if the degree has not yet been issued or only a replacement copy exists. Translation does not turn a completion letter into a degree certificate.
Read the award and dates as recorded
Check the recipient’s name, award title, any stated major, honours and the date described on the record. Do not assume every certificate states the final study date or a detailed specialisation.
Supply evidenced official English institution or course names where available. Otherwise use careful translation rather than selecting an award title to match a job requirement.
Support prior names without altering the award
If the certificate shows a previous name, supply relevant name-change evidence and passport spellings. Do not substitute the current name for the name recorded on the award.
Source errors need checking with the institution. Translation is not authentication of the certificate and does not replace direct university verification.
Keep equivalence and professional recognition separate
Translating an award is not a qualification assessment or permission to practise a regulated profession. The recipient may request transcripts or other records separately.
If NAATI is required, verify the assigned practitioner’s CPN and language direction. CCL is not professional translator certification, and Home Affairs guidance does not establish universal assessor acceptance.
Confirm source attachments and certification scope
Specify electronic or paper copies, declarations and any direct institutional delivery requirements. Translation neither creates a new university signature nor issues a new award.

Questions before commissioning
Can a degree translation replace a transcript?
Do not assume so. They contain different information, and the recipient may require both.
Does the translation confirm Australian equivalence?
No. Equivalence decisions belong to the relevant qualification assessor.
Must a degree be reissued after a name change?
Check the institution’s and recipient’s requirements. Separate name-change evidence may be relevant; the translation must not silently rewrite the source name.
