FAQ
- What is a Ministry of Justice certified translation?
- A translation signed and sealed by a translator holding a registration number with Thailand's Ministry of Justice. Thai courts and justice-sector bodies accept it without a further certification, unlike an ordinary agency certification.
- Which documents need this level of certification?
- Court judgments and orders, complaints and testimony, police records, contracts destined for arbitration or litigation, wills and powers of attorney recorded by a registry.
- Can you continue to MFA legalisation and the embassy?
- Yes. We continue to the Department of Consular Affairs and then to the destination embassy, or arrange an Apostille where the destination accepts one.
- Do you translate languages other than English?
- Yes. Thai and English are handled in-house; other language pairs are arranged through our vetted legal translator network with the same review process.
- Is same-day service available?
- Yes, subject to a capped daily volume. Call or LINE @NAATI first so we can confirm capacity before you rely on the deadline.
- Are you only a translation vendor?
- No. Our consultants map the whole certification chain for your destination before work starts, which is where most rejected filings actually go wrong.
Go deeper on Ministry of Justice document certification
Our advisory team has run these certification chains for 15+ years. Two references we keep updated for clients:
- Step-by-step playbook: documents, order of certification, rejection risks
- Route comparison: which certification path your receiving authority accepts

Documents usually required
- Original document plus one clear copy of every page
- Copy of the passport or Thai national ID card of the signatory
- Written statement of the purpose and the receiving authority
- Supporting records the receiving authority lists in its own checklist
Common reasons a bundle is rejected
- Certified copies from the Ministry are issued on request and have their own lead time.
- Case references must be quoted exactly as printed.
- Spell every name exactly as it appears in the passport, across every document in the same bundle.
Prefer not to handle the chain yourself? Send the scans and we run every step for you, from translation to the final endorsement.
How the process runs — Ministry of Justice document certification
- State the purpose and the receiving authority so the correct level of certification is chosen.
- Send scans of every page so completeness can be checked before work starts.
- Prepare the translation or the instrument in the format the receiving authority requires.
- Sign or certify before the officer authorised by law to witness that document type.
- Collect the finished set and keep a copy for the next filing.
Fees and processing times are set by each authority and vary by document and destination — confirm them with the responsible agency.
Handling it yourself vs letting iLC run it
| Aspect | Doing it yourself | With iLC |
|---|---|---|
| Working out which steps apply | You read each authority's rules yourself, and usually learn a step was missing only after the bundle is refused. | Our advisers review the documents before work starts and sequence translation, notarisation, MFA, and embassy in one pass. |
| Time spent filing | Repeat trips to each office, queueing and collecting in person. | We file on your behalf; you send scans and receive the finished set by post or courier. |
| Risk that the translation is refused | Agency names, job titles, and the certification wording often do not match what the receiving office accepts. | We use terminology and certificate formats the receiving authority has accepted before, with two-stage proof-reading. |
| If the bundle is rejected | You diagnose the cause and refile yourself, losing a full cycle. | We identify the cause, correct it, and refile without you starting over, with progress reported along the way. |
What clients typically use this for
- Legal status verification
- Court and enforcement files
- Regulatory compliance filings
Support continues after delivery
Document work rarely ends with one submission: the receiving authority may request more, or you may need to file again next year. We keep a digital copy set and a record of the certification route used for every job, so the next round starts from the right point, and you can consult us when the destination changes its requirements. Handled by a team with more than 15 years of experience.
- The certification route of each job is recorded for the next round.
- Guidance when the destination requests additional documents later.
- New document sets checked for consistency with what you already filed.
