New Zealand visa translations | Check INZ requirements and NAATI scope
New Zealand evidence and translation requirements come from the actual Immigration New Zealand application. Australian rules are not a substitute, and five listed documents are not necessary for every visa.

Start with the actual New Zealand visa and evidence request
Provide current guidance and requests for the actual study, work or family application. Identify applicants, dependants and recipients; a Student/Work/Partner label is not a checklist.
Check which records and formats are requested. Review existing English records rather than ordering academic or civil documents merely because a legacy bundle included them.
Check police and medical translation requirements separately
INZ provides translation guidance with document-specific requirements. Check police and medical records against the actual application rather than automatically applying a general-document rule.
Preserve issuers, dates, findings and annotations. Translation does not replace required medical examinations or determine character eligibility.
Confirm translator credentials and the required declaration
If proposing a NAATI translator, verify the actual practitioner’s CPN, certification and language direction, then check the recipient’s application-specific rules. CCL is not professional translator certification.
Do not claim a credential guarantees acceptance by every New Zealand authority. Check independence, practitioner details and declarations required before commissioning.
Connect translations to sources without replacing required records
Supply complete pages, reverse sides, seals and relevant attachments. Agree originals, copies or electronic files according to recipient rules. Translation does not turn a plain copy into a certified copy.
Reconcile passport names and name-history records without inventing qualification equivalence or family relationships. Admission, professional recognition and visa assessment remain separate.
Quote language work separately from application services
Supply the recipient’s inventory, page counts, language direction and file requirements. Agree amendments following new requests; one cover letter or bilingual layout is not universally sufficient.

Questions before commissioning
Can Australian translation rules replace INZ rules?
No. Check INZ requirements for the actual visa and record type; recipients may have different rules.
Does NAATI ensure acceptance of every translation?
No blanket guarantee is made. Check the practitioner, declaration and application-specific conditions.
Can a translated medical certificate replace an examination?
No. Translation conveys a record, while required health examinations follow the authority’s separate process.
